Number of sessions: 1
Hours of sessions: 4
Do you feel uncertain about performing elementary statistical analyses?
This course provides an introduction to conducting a range of basic yet essential and widely used statistical methods using SPSS, one of the most popular statistical software packages worldwide.
We will discuss the frequency analysis, central tendency measures, Pearson bivariate correlation, linear regression analysis, Chi2-test, One-way ANOVA, factor analysis, and cluster analysis.
The focus will be on the practical application of these methods rather than on the underlying mathematics. We will also pay attention to the interpretation and reporting of the output that these methods generate.
The course is based on a hands-on approach and includes concrete and practical exercises.
The only requirement for attending the workshop is having SPSS installed. Participants do not need to bring their own data; the lecturer will provide sample data to practice with.
Entry level and relevance
The course is designed for people with no to little experience with or knowledge of statistical research. The course can be useful to students from any research discipline, in any phase of their PhD project.
Relations with other courses
The EGSH offers more courses about statistical methods. Other courses provide other types of help. For instance, some courses focus on other programs (such as R, which is less user-friendly, but also offers more functionalities than SPSS), other or more advanced methods (such as MLM and SEM), or other research aspects (such as the design of a survey with which you can collect data suitable for statistical methods).
If you are new to statistical research and need assistance with basic, commonly used analyses which you want to conduct with the help of user-friendly interface-based software, then this course about SPSS is probably the most suitable option for you.
How to prepare
Before the workshop begins, all participants should have SPSS installed and complete a few other small preparations. You will receive instructions from the lecturer two weeks in advance.
