In the aftermath of Julian Schaap’s PhD defence, a symposium will be hosted on "Researching Race, Ethnicity and Music".
The event will take place on 11 October from 15:00-17:00 in Theil Building, CB-04. Speakers at the event are:
- Dr. Jo Haynes from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom. He will speak about "Embodied mistrelsy, racialization and redeption in reggae"
- Kim Dankoor, MSc from the University of Utrecht, Netherlands. Her talk is titled "'Am I feeling myself?' Commercial rap music videos' effects on the self-concepts of male and female adolescents in the United States and the Netherlands.
- Prof. dr. Tim Dowd from Emory University, United States. His talk is on "Globalization and the dynamics of musician careers: A longitudinal perspective"
- Prof. dr. Giselinde Kuipers from KU Leuven, Belgium. She will speak about "Race and beauty, or: How to study unspeakable things?"
