We are happy to share "Bridging Perspectives", an education-impact initiative and documentary series exploring how technology shapes migrants’ everyday lives. The initiative is a three-part public outreach project in which three student groups from the International Bachelor Communication and Media (IBCoM) produced three different documentaries. Each episode connects key debates, such as digital belonging, the role of AI in surveillance and governance in migration, social media narratives, and digital inclusion, with migrants’ lived realities.
Co-led with students from the research internship program at IBCoM at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the series turns research into public-facing storytelling, giving students hands-on experience while bringing academic insight to wider audiences.
Each episode connects migrants’ lived experiences with key debates: digital belonging, AI in migration governance, social media narratives, and digital inclusion. Topics include how technology shapes belonging, including for women who moved to the Netherlands through marriage; how AI affects both migration governance and migrants’ own experiences; the digital barriers limiting access to essential support; and how digital platforms have reshaped migrants’ agency and voice in their own stories.
By combining personal stories with research-based insight, “Bridging Perspectives” aims to build awareness, encourage reflection, and support more informed public and policy conversations.
