By becoming a supporter of the PRC Alliance, the University Library of Erasmus University Rotterdam joins 40 other organizations and stakeholders committed towards a more transparent, decentralized and community-led scholarly communication model.
On October 28, 2026, the Publish-Review-Curate (PRC) Alliance launched as a coalition of more than 40 stakeholders working towards a more open, transparent, and researcher-centred approach to scholarly communication. The University Library is pleased to join the other stakeholders in their mission towards a more inclusive and equitable publishing landscape.
Typically, research outputs are first peer-reviewed and curated before being published. The PRC model reverses this order by first publishing research outputs prior to any subsequent open review and/or curation. This model accelerates scientific communication by making research findings available earlier while providing open and transparent access to peer reviews.
PRC platforms are often community-led and usually do not charge publication costs, following a Diamond OA model. Examples of communities using the PRC model already exist (such as Peer Community In, SciPost , MetaROR), and some are supported via our OA fund; however, the adoption of this model is still limited.
In addition to being part of the PRC Alliance, the Library is involved in the national project Next-generation publishing: Advancing Publish-Review-Curate model in the Netherlands, led by Leiden University. The project aims to identify and support communities in adopting the PRC model.
These efforts build on the Library’s ongoing commitment to more equitable scholarly publishing through Diamond Open Access, which we have pursued for the last two years and continue to work on side by side.
