Yosha Wijngaarden wins NeFCA Dissertation Award 2019

On Friday 5 February 2021, Yosha Wijngaarden won the NeFCA Dissertation Award 2019 for her dissertation ‘Places of co-working: situating innovation in the creative industries’. The NeFCA Dissertation Award aims to acknowledge excellent dissertations in the field of Communication Sciences and wants to recognize the quality of doctoral research in the Netherlands and Flanders. The award was presented during the online edition of Etmaal 2021, the event for Communication science in the Netherlands and Flanders.

Yosha’s dissertation ‘Places of co-working: Situating innovation in the creative industries’ was part of the research project ‘Cultures of Innovation in the Creative Industries’. The dissertation explores whether and how the location of a creative entrepreneur and artist may contribute to his or her innovative capabilities.

Yosha Wijngaarden: “After having been part of the NeFCA Dissertation Award jury myself a few years ago, I know that the level of dissertations in communication sciences is exceptionally high. Receiving this award therefore came as a big surprise to me. I am very honored, and very proud to represent ESHCC in The Netherlands – Flanders Communication Association.”

Yosha worked at ESHCC, Department of Media & Communication, from 2013 to 2019 as a lecturer and PhD candidate. She defended her dissertation on 12 December 2019 and worked as a postdoc at the Department of Arts and Culture between 2019 and 2020. She’s now an assistant professor at the Radboud University in Nijmegen.
