dr. M (Marten) Boon

Biography

My research interests are on the intersection of business, environmental and international history. My research and publications focus on the energy sector in the 20th and 21st centuries, with a particular emphasis on the oil and gas industry and the historical and contemporary sustainability issues of energy. My most recent book is a commissioned study on the recent history of the Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor, entitled National Champion: Statoil and Equinor since 2001. In my current research project, I am investigating the role of transnational business interest organisations in global environmental governance between the 1970s and the 1990s. I am also currently editor, together with Prof. Ann-Kristin Bergquist (Uppsala University), of the Cambridge Companion to Business, History and Climate Change.
