Curriculum

Media Studies

The pre-master is a highly intensive one-year programme preparing you for one of our master tracks: Media & Business, Media & Creative Industries, Media, Culture & Society or Media & Journalistiek (NL). During this year you take courses of our International Bachelor Communication and Media (IBCoM). You will follow the lectures together with IBCoM students and the tutorials with your fellow pre-master students. Both the lectures as the tutorials are fully taught in English*. The year is structured in four terms.

In the first term you will familiarize yourself with the concepts and theories that are important in media studies. In addition, you work on your academic skills such as argumentation, using academic sources and writing an academic paper. The second term focuses upon improving your research skills; you learn how to set-up a research project, conduct analyses and report your findings. This solid basis prepares you for the second half of the pre-master in which you follow one course on the topic of your pre-master programme, and work on conducting your own research project to finalize the pre-master year. In this research project you put everything you learned in practice.

The various pre-master programmes

Below you can find the programmes for the four different pre-master programmes. The English pre-masters prepare you for either Media & Business, Media & Creative Industries or Media, Culture & Society. The pre-master programme Media & Journalistiek prepares you for the Dutch Master Media & Journalistiek. To enroll in this pre-master programme, you must therefore master the Dutch language.

If you want to learn more about a specific course, you can fill out the course code in the online course catalog.

* The tutorials of the pre-master Media & Journalistiek will be in Dutch.
