Generative AI (GenAI) is transforming not only how we work, but also how we learn. In this GenAI Monthly Meetup, Mario Negrello will present an innovative approach to education developed within the NeuroAI minor at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Erasmus MC: learning as navigation through a structured knowledge space.
As generative AI continues to evolve, universities face the challenge of integrating these technologies into education in meaningful ways. Beyond simply teaching AI tools, there is a growing need to rethink how students discover, organize, and connect knowledge across disciplines.
The NeuroAI minor addresses this by combining neuroscience, artificial intelligence, dynamical systems, cognition, robotics, and scientific practice into a highly transdisciplinary curriculum. Instead of following a fixed, linear learning path, students navigate a rich, ontology-driven knowledge map that represents the conceptual landscape of the field.
Inspired by navigation tools such as Google Maps, this approach allows students to define “capability destinations”. For example, explaining action potentials using the Hodgkin–Huxley model, building neural networks, or modelling cognition and exploring personalized learning routes to reach them.

About the GenAI Monthly Meetups
GenAI offers amazing opportunities, but also brings along some tough challenges. Instead of working on GenAI by yourself, join a group of curious, collaborative, and friendly fellow EUR GenAI enthusiasts—students, teachers, and staff—for knowledge sharing and hands-on practice.
Collaboration: Connect with like-minded individuals to share successes, tackle challenges and brainstorm solutions in a supportive environment.
Guest speakers: Occasionally we will invite guest speakers who will share the latest insights, practical applications, and future trends in Generative AI.
Flexible Participation: No obligations! Attend at your convenience and engage with us when your schedule allows.
