dr. (Trilce) T Navarrete Hernandez

Biography

Trilce Navarrete is a specialist in the economic and historic aspects of digital heritage.

She is currently Assistant Professor at the Erasmus Rotterdam University, where she coordinates RECHARGE, a Horizon project that develops participatory business models, and leads the AI Arts and Culture Research Practice as Academic Director of ECDA.

Regarding academic citizenship, Navarrete is part of the interim management of the EIT Culture and Creativity, an innitiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), she is scientific advisor at the European Group of Museum Statistics (EGMUS) since 2011, chair of the International Committee of Documentation of the International Council of Museums (CIDOC), and member of the board of the Association of Cultural Economics.

Regarding dissemination, her research skills are known in the field, where she consults, advises, and evaluates regularly on projects regarding policy, statistics, costs, and strategy of digital heritage to Ministries of Culture, sectoral associations, and (non-profit) organisations. She is regularly invited to give keynote addresses and public lectures in avacemic, sectora, and governmental communitieis. She is cofounder of the academic blog Economists Talk Art and the Cultural Economics Online Series.

Nvarrete has received several grants, as main applicant and research coordinator of RECHARGE (3 million euro), as contributing member of CitizenHeritage (400,000 euro), and as partner of RICHES (2.4 million euro). She contributed to the creation and development of the European statistics for digital heritage (ENUMERATE, 320,000 euro), has taken part in several other applications. Navarrete was responsible for the first national study of the economic and historic development of digital museums, in The Netherlands. You can read a summary here.

As Assistant Professor part of the Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship program, Navarrete teaches at BA and MA level a variety of courses, including the Museums in Context MA elective (CC4122) where students get to apply theories to solve a wicked problem posed by a Dutch museum. Topics tackled can be viewed in a video series.

Navarrete holds a PhD from the University of Amsterdam. On her free time she sings.
