Mark Straver (1990) is a PhD-candidate and lecturer at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication. His research focuses on the Dutch shipbuilding industry in the Netherlands between 1945 and 1983. He examines how post-war globalization affected the industry, concentrating on the development of global external conditions and on the subsequent local strategic responses by shipyards. 

As lecturer, Mark Straver is involved in various courses on Maritime History. He supervises bachelor and master students writing their thesis on maritime topics that engage with economic history, business history or political economy. In tutorial classes for international master students from the Erasmus Mundus programme GLOCAL he investigates the various ways in which periods of globalization and deglobalization have affected local ports.

Mark Straver holds Master degrees in History, Finance and Financial Law (2015) from Erasmus University Rotterdam. His main research interests include maritime history, business history, and economic history.
