Over the past month, the ESHPM Alumni Office has organised two events: one aimed more at students and one for alumni who graduated in recent years. Both events were designed to help our students and alumni get their careers off to a great start.
Students Meet Alumni
On Wednesday 27 May, we held the fourth edition of Students Meet Alumni – an afternoon where ESHPM alumni from various sectors return to campus to tell our current students more about the paths they could take after graduating and the roles they might go on to fill. Questions came up including ‘how do you choose a particular sector?’ or ‘what does an entry-level job in that sector actually look like?’.
In the end, there were around 20 students who keenly attended the various sessions. During the drinks reception that followed, students struck up several conversations with alumni, taking the opportunity to ask them further questions.
The main challenge again with this event is reaching students and preventing no-shows – something we will look into more for the next occasion. However, we did hear from one of the alumni who attended that a previous edition of this event actually led indirectly to a job for one of our former students!
First Inter-Faculty Alumni Career Day
Thursday 4 June was a special day and one that our alumni team had been looking forward to all year... the first inter-faculty Alumni Career Day. We organised a special event for EUR’s recent alumni in collaboration with other faculties (primarily ESSB/EUC, ESHCC, ESL and ISS) and the central alumni team, with ESHPM taking the lead.
The aim of the day was to offer guidance to those who graduated up to around five years ago, as they take their first steps in their careers – a sort of after-care, if you like. We put on a programme featuring various workshops offering practical tips on topics such as salary negotiations and networking, as well as broader topics. ESHPM alumna Demi Jongejan led a session on strategic well-being at work. The event concluded with a keynote speech delivered by Ronit Palache on the importance of failing, followed by drinks and ample opportunity to network.
In the end, nearly 60 alumni from the various faculties attended, including 8 from ESHPM. We hope to make this an annual event and welcome even more alumni at the next edition. We’re already looking forward to it next year!
Your input is wanted!
