Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:
This PhD research explores how infections with arboviruses transmitted by vectors, such as mosquitoes, can be serologically detected and diagnosed. With the ongoing rapid and worldwide spread of arboviruses, (closely-related) arboviruses increasingly co-circulate. This complicates serological interpretation and differentiation due to antibody cross-reactivity. This thesis aims to elucidate our understanding of the complex arbovirus antibody (background) patterns in low to high-risk populations, and ultimately to differentiate past and recent infections with closely-related viruses. The thesis describes various applications of innovative multiplex approaches to study arbovirus antibodies and their complex interplay.
