Dr René Repasi

On Tuesday, 21 November, ESL researcher Dr René Repasi was invited by the Constitutional Affairs Committee (AFCO) of the European Parliament to give a testimony on the reform of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). Dr Repasi, who also acts as scientific coordinator of the European Research Centre for Economic and Financial Governance (EURO-CEFG), spoke already at previous occasions to the Parliament because of his research in EU law and on the reform of economic governance.

Dr Repasi was asked to speak in particular about the improvement of the democratic control of policy actions within EMU. He focused on the democratic scrutiny of the Eurogroup and the strengthening of Parliaments in the so-called European semester. Within this European semester, the relevant EU institutions check on the compliance of Member States with economic and budgetary goals, set at EU level.
