Honorary Doctorates

Erasmus School of Law is proud to honour those who have been awarded an honorary doctorate. This distinction is reserved for legal professionals, academics and community leaders who have distinguished themselves in an exceptional manner within their field and whose work has had a significant impact beyond it. Through their pioneering contributions to law, academia and society, they embody the values our School stands for.

Founding father professor Piet Sanders LL.M.

Professor Piet Sanders (1912) was appointed to Professor of Civil Law and the main principles of the civil procedure in 1959 at the Dutch Economic Academy (the precursor of Erasmus University Rotterdam). He founded the Faculty of Law in 1963. The current faculty building is named after him. Professor Piet Sanders passed away in 2012.
