Renewed collaboration with Peking University

Erasmus University Rotterdam will continue maintaining collaborative ties with Peking University. An agreement was reached by both universities during a visit to China by a delegation from Rotterdam. Erasmus School of Economics and Erasmus School of Law each signed an individual agreement with the Chinese university.

Executive Board President Kristel Baele and President Lin Jianhua signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this week in the presence of Bruno Bruins (Minister for Medical Care). The MoU deals with the exchange of students and researchers between Erasmus University and Peking University.

A delegation from Erasmus University, led by Kristel Baele, will be in China until 12 April as part of a larger delegation of knowledge institutions headed by Minister Bruins. Other members of the delegation include Prof. Hans Severens, Dean of Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM), Prof. Fabian Amtenbrink, vice-Dean of Erasmus School of Law (ESL), and Prof. Onno Steenbeek (Erasmus School of Economics).

Risk management

In addition to the MoU, the Economics faculties of both universities and two private parties signed a research contract in the field of risk management. Both law faculties also agreed to renew their collaboration.
The first MoU between EUR and Peking University was signed in 2008, with the agreement subsequently renewed every five years. To date, there are four agreements at faculty level:

  1. Guanghua School of Management with Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM): since 2008
  2. School of Medicine with Erasmus MC: since 2008
  3. School of Law with Erasmus School of Law: since 2009
  4. School of Economics with Erasmus School of Economics: since 2016

China’s importance to Erasmus University is underscored by the fact that the delegation from Rotterdam will visit a total of eight partner universities in the country.
