Biography
Dr. Sascha van Schendel is assisstant professor Data Protection & Cybersecurity at the department of Law & Markets under the Sectorplan SSH breed The Influence of Digitalization on Work, Prosperity and Entrepreneurship. Sascha holds a PhD from Tilburg University on Risk Profiling conducted by law enforcement agencies, data protection law, non-discrimination law, and criminal procedural law. Her research focuses on data protection law, privacy law, and the regulation of new technologies in general through the lens of fundamental rights and law & technology theories. She has published widely on topics such as procedural law in the data driven society, the use of algorithms and data collection by public actors, the scope of data protection law & personal data, and the culmination of data protection law and the technological and design perspective (e.g. privacy by design, privacy preserving data mining).
She conducted her post-doctoral research within the NWO funded Megamind project on smart energy grids. Sascha studied Law & Technology LLM and Rechtsgeleerdheid Public Law LLM, both at Tilburg University.
