Full membership

Full membership is applicable to faculty members with a research appointment at the ESHCC Departments of Media & Communication or Arts & Culture Studies.

A full member has obtained a PhD and has a solid publication track record, i.e. meets the ERMeCC publication standards. Full members are also required to join a recognized national Research School within the Netherlands, e.g. the Research School for Media Studies (RMeS).

Full membership of ERMeCC is exclusive, i.e. cannot be combined with full membership of other research centres at Erasmus University.

Associate membership

This applies to lecturers at the ESHCC, Departments of Media & Communication or Arts & Culture Studies, who are active researchers and contribute to ERMeCC research and research activities but who do not have a formal research appointment.

PhD students

PhD membership is applicable to PhD students registered at the ESHCC’s Departments of Media and Communication and Arts and Culture Studies. PhD membership cannot extend a period of six years in total. This also applies to part-time PhD students.

Affiliate membership

This membership category applies to researchers with a PhD who are substantially involved in ERMeCC’s research. Affiliate membership may also arise from a longstanding collaboration with ERMeCC researchers or research groups or can be awarded after retirement. Affiliate memberships are granted for a five-year period.

Visiting researcher

An ERMeCC visiting researcher is a scholar in the field of Media, Culture and Communication from another academic institution. He/she is invited to join ERMeCC for a limited time period in order to carry out research and contribute to ERMeCC’s mission. A visiting researcher is granted the use of ESHCC facilities.

ERMeCC Research Fellow

ERMeCC Research fellows are scholars in the field of Media, Culture and Communication from another academic institution, who cooperate actively with ERMeCC members. Research Fellows can be former ERMeCC members. A Fellowship may also arise from a fruitful collaboration with ERMeCC researchers or research groups. ERMeCC Research Fellowships are granted for a five-year period.

Honorary membership

This membership category applies to internationally renowned academic scholars. Their research belongs to the top-tier of academic quality and is considered to be important for research projects developed within ERMeCC.
