Connecting Our Future

Student-Centred Support
Pre Academic Programme 2016

Connecting Our Future recognises that outreach efforts do not stop once students enrol in higher education. At university, much like on the way to university, students from underrepresented backgrounds may face barriers that impact how they can perform at and experience university.

Student-Centred Support strives to support students from underrepresented backgrounds with services that match their experiences, needs and wishes, thus promoting academic success, wellbeing, and student satisfaction. We achieve this by increasing our knowledge of the support needed by our students, expanding existing support programmes and services, and exploring avenues to develop new support programmes and services that are student-centred.

Advice and Counselling

EUR provides a variety of support services for students at our university. These range from legal and financial services (student counsellors) to mental health services (university psychologists) and career/ job services (career advisors). In addition to individual support, Advice & Counselling also offers various training sessions and groups. Student-Centred Support also works with Advice & Counseling to provide equally accessible, valued, and effective services for all EUR students. For study programme related matters, students can contact their faculty study advisor. For non-study related issues, please contact Advice & Counseling. You can also consult their respective web pages below.

Pre Academic Programme

The transition from high school to university or higher vocational education (HBO) to university can feel challenging to many first-year students. EUR offers the successful Pre Academic Programme to all (future) first-year students to help facilitate this transition. The Pre Academic Programme is a personal leadership summer programme, organized before students first academic year, which aims to give students a successful start at the EUR.

Over the course of five weeks, (future) first-year students are introduced to other students and EUR's academic culture. To be well-prepared for their studies at EUR, they develop personal leadership skills and gain additional knowledge and skills over a diverse range of topics. Student-Centred Support works closely with the Pre Academic Programme in its continuous development to ensure that it matches the needs and wishes of incoming students from diverse personal, cultural, and educational backgrounds. Future students looking to get a head start on their academic journey at EUR can find more information here

Student Wellbeing Programme

To support all students personal growth and develop their talents, EUR has launched its Student Wellbeing Programme: 'Are you OK out there?'. With a diverse offering of online and offline activities, the programme aspires to contribute to students' mental and physical wellbeing, sense of community, and social safety.

Student-Centred Support and the Student Wellbeing Programme have joined efforts to monitor EUR students' general health, wellbeing, and academic success over time, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, we seek to expand the support structures and activities incorporated within the Student Wellbeing Programme by collecting in-depth information on the experiences, needs, and wishes of historically underrepresented students. To find more about the programme's online and offline activities, please visit the webpage.
