September. The month that heralds the end of summer. Work continues as usual, but not for first-year students! The academic year started again at the beginning of September. A new chapter for these students. What does September mean to you?
Everything is new for first-year students
During the first few days of September, students got to know each other, their lecturers, study advisors, and the Education Center—the place that will become their second home. First-year student: “Week 1 was exactly how you would imagine an introduction week to be: exciting but also fun, where you get to know lots of new things and people.”
What did first-year students think of their first few weeks?
- ‘The first week was immediately very informative and enjoyable, and generated a lot of enthusiasm for the program.’
- ‘The first week flew by, and a new chapter is beginning, full of fun and enthusiasm.’
- 'Week 1 felt open and accessible: lectures provided direction and the study flow got going right away.'
- “As first-year students, we have embarked on this inspiring new chapter, in which we have already been introduced to the interactive and case-oriented way of learning, the opportunities outside of education, and, last but not least, each other!”
The Annual Representative of the Rotterdam Medical Faculty Association: “For the first-year students, the first week flew by. At first, most of them had to find their feet, but the atmosphere is good and they can't wait to finally get started.”
‘It’s wonderful to see the education center buzzing with energy again. The start of the academic year remains a special moment: new faces, fresh ideas, and renewed ambition. I wish everyone who is committed heart and soul to good education an inspiring and successful year.’ - Vice Dean Prof. Maarten Frens
Full of energy
Gert Jansen is the program director of the research master's in Molecular Medicine and saw the enthusiasm among his students. “New students were excited to meet their fellow students in the research master's or in other master's programs,” says Gert. “Full of energy to start the next step in their education, get to know the teachers of their master's program, and learn how to become researchers in their field of interest.”
