We are happy that you have chosen Erasmus University Rotterdam as your (next) place of study and we are looking forward to welcoming you on our campus. A crucial part of preparing for your studies abroad is securing safe and affordable accommodation, ideally close to the university.
Student housing in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands, universities do not arrange student housing. This means you will need to secure accommodation on your own. While Erasmus University Rotterdam has reserved accommodation for approximately 25% of our incoming international students each year, the majority of students will need to find accommodation through the private market. (Please note: different housing arrangements apply for first-year students of Erasmus University College and the International Institute of Social Studies).
The current housing crisis
It is important to inform you that Rotterdam, like much of the Netherlands, is currently facing a severe housing shortage. This crisis has, unfortunately, led to higher rental prices and intense competition for the limited student housing available. Given these circumstances, we strongly advise you to begin your housing search as early as possible and to secure your accommodation before traveling to the Netherlands.
Start your academic journey stress free
You deserve to start the new academic year and your new adventure abroad without the added stress of worrying about where you will live. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of arranging your student housing before arriving in Rotterdam. We wish you every success with your forthcoming preparations!
