This intensive course, held over three days in October 2025, consists of a key module with two engaging sessions each day, providing participants with an immersive exploration of the various aspects of LGBTQ+ rights law.

- Introduction into human rights law: A foundational overview of global human rights principles, focusing on how LGBTQ+ rights are framed within international legal contexts.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and LGBTQ+ Rights: A critical examination of how AI technologies intersect with LGBTQ+ rights, including discussions of bias, discrimination, privacy issues and ethics.
- Workplace and Economics: An analysis of LGBTQ+ rights in the workplace, covering employment law, economic inequality, and the legal protections needed to foster equality and inclusion.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completing this course, participants will:

Target Audience:
This course is tailored to professionals (such as diversity officers, policy advisors, activists) who are involved in developing, enforcing, or advising on policies related to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-discrimination policies that require a basic understanding of LGBTQ+ rights within public and private organizations such as law firms, government ministries, NGOs, and other organizations. The course is also valuable to EUR employees, (PhD) students, academics, and professionals in general who want to deepen their understanding of LGBTQ+ rights law and its application in various legal contexts, including human rights law, employment law, and emerging issues like AI ethics.
Venue and Contact:
The executive course takes place on campus at the Erasmus School of Law in Rotterdam. The campus is easily accessible by public transport, with paid parking available on campus.

Lecturers:
The executive course will be delivered by lecturers specialised in (human rights) law in general and LGBTQ+ rights specifically, including sessions by Prof. Jeroen Temperman, Prof. Wibren van der Burg, Dr. Masuma Shahid and more, who bring a wealth of experience and insight to the classroom.

Jeroen Temperman is professor of international law at Erasmus School of Law. He is editor-in-chief of Religion & Human Rights: An International Journal and served on the OSCE’s Panel of Experts on Freedom of Religion or Belief (2016–2022). He holds degrees in law and humanist studies, and earned his PhD at the Irish Centre for Human Rights.
Jeroen has held visiting positions at institutions including American University (Washington D.C.), Trinity College Dublin, and the University of Siena. He has published over 100 academic works, including Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights (OUP) and Religious Hatred and International Law (CUP), and has presented at events in over 30 countries.

Wibren van der Burg is professor of Legal Philosophy and Jurisprudence at Erasmus School of Law. His research focuses on three themes: methodologies of interdisciplinary legal research, legal and cultural pluralism, and the relationship between law and morality. He is co-author of Contextualising Legal Research (Edward Elgar, 2024) and author of Rechtsfilosofie in een pluralistische wereld (Boom Juridisch, 2025). Wibren has widely published on law’s interaction with ethics and society, combining doctrinal, empirical, and philosophical approaches in his work and teaching.

Masuma Shahid is assistant professor at Erasmus School of Law, specializing in LGBTQ+ rights and the intersection of law, AI, and queer data. She lectures in European Union and international law, with a focus on human rights. Masuma co-coordinates the LGBTQI+ Working Group of the Berkeley Center on Comparative Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law and is a member of the Diversity Platform at Erasmus School of Law. Her research spans LGBTQ+ rights, European market and competition law, and privacy law.
