Who cares?

Rotterdam prides itself on being a city of “niet lullen maar poetsen” - don’t talk, just clean/do. But who is actually doing the cleaning? What takes place before the swept floors, the cared-for homes, and the sustaining of the praised work–life balance?

During the event Who Cares? a film will be shown and a theater performance will take place, both centered around the experiences of those who keep the city polished and cared for: migrant domestic workers. The event will delve into their lived experiences and address the informality of the domestic care sector. It will explore how workers and employers relate to each other in such a setting, how they manage fair (labour) relations and the challenges they face in ensuring that needs of all parties are met.

The piece was created by the Theater Collective of Migrant Domestic Workers of the FNV trade union; where the performers are experts by experience.

Following the performance, join a workshop on domestic workers’ rights, shared struggles between workers and employers, as well as the impact of plans around migration policies, such as the criminalization of people without papers.
