Paul van Geest has been appointed Professor of Theology and Economic Thought at the Faculty of Philosophy of Erasmus University Rotterdam. Effective from 1 January 2018, he holds the position on a part-time basis. His chair is in part made possible by Erasmus Holding and Erasmus School of Economics.

Chair
The aim of the Faculty of Philosophy in establishing the chair of Theology and Economic Thought is to contribute to interdisciplinary research and education in the fields of philosophy, economics and theology. By taking this step, the Faculty of Philosophy is keeping up with key developments in economic thought and expects to be in a position to enrich the degree programmes in, respectively, philosophy and economics. Professor Van Geest will teach courses for students and doctoral candidates who are interested in the history of theology and questions concerning the meaning of life as considered in relation to economic motives.
About Paul van Geest
Paul van Geest has been Professor of Church History and the History of Theology at Tilburg University since 2007. He graduated in Philology (Leiden, 1986) and Theology (Rome, Pontifical Gregorian University/Gregoriana, 1991). In 1996 he was awarded a doctorate in Utrecht for his thesis on the medieval theologian Thomas a Kempis. From 2002 to 2007 he was Endowed Professor of Augustinian Studies at the Catholic Theological University of Utrecht. In addition to being an internationally recognised scholar in the field of early Christianity and the thought of Augustine of Hippo, he regularly appears in the Dutch media to explain developments in Christianity.
