Ruud Welten and Lydia Baan Hofman to speak at 'Dag van de Filosofie'

Ruud Welten, Professor in Contemporary Approaches to Human Subjectivity, and Lydia Baan Hofman, PhD Candidate with the Erasmus Initiative Dynamics of Inclusive Prosperity, her dissertation titled For a pedagogy of partial responses: agency in demanding times of socio-environmental injustices, will speak at 'Dag van de Filosofie', organised by the Philosophy Department of Tilburg University. This event will take place at April 15th, 2023. Its theme is inspired by Lucebert, the Dutch poet; 'vulnerable and valuable'.

Everything of value is vulnerable

But what does that actually mean? When is something of value and how do we express that valuation? In our society, we like to express value in numbers or with a yardstick. Whoever can run the fastest wins the cup. Whoever has the most followers on social media is the most interesting. Is something worth more when more people appreciate it? What does our own judgement tell us then? And are the things that cannot be measured perhaps worth the most?
