Philosophy made me wonder about the meaning of wellbeing in economics
Governments often implement new policies to improve the wellbeing of citizens. Economists deem policies positive if they raise GDP, but fail to evaluate changes in wellbeing. Philosophy shows there is more to wellbeing than meets the eye. I learned how wellbeing differs between moral theories. Is it happiness or a list of objectives, like safety? I also discovered the challenges of reducing complex ideas to numbers in a dataset. The Double Degree with Philosophy programme has enriched my economic thinking.
