Eddy van Doorslaer appointed as member of KNAW

Eddy van Doorslaer gekozen tot lid KNAW

The KNAW (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences) has appointed Eddy van Doorslaer, Professor of Health Economics at Erasmus School of Economics (ESE), as one of the fifteen new members.

The Academy’s membership is made up of prominent researchers active in every field of science and scholarship. New members are nominated by existing Academy members and by external parties.  The Academy has approximately five hundred members, divided between its Humanities and Social Sciences Division and its Science Division. Members are appointed for life. Professor Eddy van Doorslaer will be installed on Monday 30 September 2013 at the Trippenhuis Building, where the Academy has its offices.

It is more than justified that the Academy recognises this important scientific field in this way. And of course, it is great for Erasmus School of Economics to be well represented at the Academy.'

About Eddy van Doorslaer

Eddy van Doorslaer (1958) deals with equality in health and health care. With his work Van Doorslaer has had a decisive influence on the international research agenda. The methods he developed have become the standard for measuring inequalities in health and access to care. His work provides important insights for policy discussion on which part of the care should be collectively financed.
