Erasmus University (EUR) has established an Engagement Board to firmly anchor social engagement, alongside education and research, as EUR's third core task. A representative from each faculty will serve on the engagement board. This is how the university organizes the governance surrounding the new strategy.
In an increasingly complex world, the university aims to leverage its knowledge, services, and network to impact major societal challenges. EUR's expertise and network focus pimarily on five key societal challenges: societal resilience, sustainable entrepreneurship, a just (energy) transition, healthcare, and the responsible use of new technology. These themes transcend the boundaries of faculties and the walls of academia. Therefore, joint management is essential.

As a EUR-wide body, the Engagement Board advises the Executive Board on all forms of engagement, both regionally and internationally: from policy and quality frameworks to strategic partnerships, outreach activities, alumni engagement, entrepreneurship, and valuing employee engagement. Its members bridge the gap between the faculties and the central policy. They ensure coordination, collaboration, and knowledge sharing throughout the university.
‘This also means we can exchange knowledge about engagement and develop a shared vision’, says Strategic Dean Impact & Engagement Arwin van Buuren. The Engagement Board ensures that education and research are enriched with sustainable social engagement.
