The Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam has reappointed Prof. Harriët Schelhaas (1971) as Dean of Erasmus School of Law (ESL).
Schelhaas has been Dean of ESL since 1 January 2022, and the new term will start on 1 January 2026. The reappointment is for a period of four years.

The Executive Board of EUR is delighted that Harriët Schelhaas will continue to fulfil her role as Dean at Erasmus School of Law for a further term. The law faculty has very high societal relevance due to its impactful research and teaching. Rector Magnificus prof.dr.ir Jantine Schuit: 'We are fully convinced that Harriët Schelhaas, with her dedication and her ability to bring people together, will continue to make an indispensable contribution to both Erasmus School of Law and the strategy of Erasmus University Rotterdam in the coming period, and we very much look forward to continuing our collaboration.'

About Harriët Schelhaas
Schelhaas has been a Professor of Private Law, specializing in contract law, at Erasmus School of Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam since 2015. In addition, she has been vice-dean of bachelor's programmes at ESL since 2020. She studied in Leiden and then obtained her PhD at Utrecht University with a thesis on penalty clauses in European contract law. Schelhaas then spent ten years as a lawyer at the Stibbe law firm in Amsterdam, where she further developed her expertise in commercial and international contract law.
Schelhaas is also an editor and editor-in-chief for various national and international academic journals, such as the European Review of Private Law, Kluwer's Groene Serie Verbintenissenrecht (Green Series on the Law of Obligations) and the Juridisch Tijdschrift Contracteren (Legal Journal on Contracting). She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Belgian Journal of Private Law and teaches various courses at the judiciary and bar. In addition, Schelhaas is a deputy judge at the Arnhem-Leeuwarden Court of Appeal.
