The important role of student guides during Eurekaweek

A group of diverse students who will be guides during Eurekaweek

This month four training sessions took place for Eurekaweek student guides. They have a very important role in leading new student groups throughout the Eurekaweek (EUR's introduction week) programme. In collaboration with Eurekaweek Management (EWM), IDEA Center asked experts of Brave Spaces to deliver these trainings to talk about bystander interventions - how to recognise but also act in situations that need intervening from our student guides, such as situations concerning unwanted behaviour.

Learning is done best by doing: during break-out sessions, student guides had the opportunity to try out ice-breaking activities that they could use with their Eurekaweek student groups, as well as dive into real-life cases that require intervention. This created a safe space to openly discuss complex and sometimes confronting issues.

The participants enjoyed the interactive elements and the chance to meet fellow student guides. They gained new insights and feel better equipped to intervene in difficult situations. We wish them all the best of luck welcoming new students to Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam!
