Licorice, cabaret and herring for international students

Outside it was snowing, inside 120 new students got a warm welcome speech from our rector magnificus Rutger Engels and got to meet the cortege. Erasmus Student Network-president Sander van Neut told the new students how important it is to experience other cultures and challenged them to make at least one Dutch friend.

As a closing act British comedian Adam Fields made the new students laugh out loud telling them about weird Dutch habits and manners, like how we use the word ‘gezellig’ for everything. The afterparty was held in the Erasmus Sports Café where the students got to taste Dutch delicacies such as pancakes with syrup, licorice and… raw herring. Welcome to Erasmus University Rotterdam!
