The National Youth Commemorations
Phone down – heart open. On May 4th, the first National Youth Commemorations will take place in Rotterdam as part of the many commemorations that take place throughout the country. It will be a memorial for and by young people; to give new meaning to the topic: remembering all war victims throughout history, including a special program that will provide an experience for all senses.
Program and location
The commemoration will take place in the new Luxor Theater and will feature special guests: The Smartphone Orchestra and Akwasi, as well as vlogs of players, a pop-up poetry store, a "wereldwensenmuur" (world wishing wall) and short scenes of "oorlog in mijn huis" (war in my house). The program will conclude with the moving, visual performance De loop der dingen (a chain-reaction of things) made by Hofplein Rotterdam in which 40 young players create a link to the current situation in the world without using words.
At a secret spot in Rotterdam, a big light monument will be created on May 4th. Everyone is invited to help with the display, which will consist of more than 10,000 colored candles that together form a large light drawing designed by Rotterdam artist Iwan Smit.
