Shadi Sharif Azadeh of Erasmus School of Economics, together with Professor Lóránt Tavasszy and Dr Yousef Maknoon (TU Delft), have been awarded the Dutch Research Council (NWO) Accelerator Fund for developing a new methodological approach to plan the operation of on-demand logistics systems.
Advancements in information technology and data-exchange in the last decade have shifted the traditional logistics planning from offering a common low-cost solution towards personalised and swift transportation services. This paradigm change affects the behaviour of customers and their expectation from logistics systems, especially in the domain of city-logistics.
Addressing planning challenges
On-demand logistics systems operate in a highly uncertain environment in which they need to respond to real-time logistics demand while satisfying customers' expectations. Azadeh’s project ‘CUSTOMIZE, customer-driven prescriptive analytics for logistics planning’, will focus on developing a new methodological approach to address the planning challenges faced by these systems. The consortium has close collaboration with two major industrial partners to ensure full-scale implementation.
About Shadi Sharif Azadeh
Shadi Sharif Azadeh has been Assistant Professor in the Econometrics Department of Erasmus School of Economics since 2016. She completed her Master’s as well as her PhD at Polytechnique Montreal. She has been working as a postdoc and Marie Curie fellow at EPFL under supervision of Professor Bierlaire. Her research is focussed on integrating choice models with optimisation methods. She has initiated and conducted several industrial and research projects at the TRANSP-OR lab at EPFL.
