Strong presence of Erasmus School of Economics in ESB Economenparade 2025

In its annual Economenparade, ESB recognises economists whose work stands out for its academic quality and societal relevance. This year’s edition once again highlights researchers and students connected to Erasmus School of Economics.

Each year, ESB’s Economenparade maps the scientific achievements and societal contributions of economists in Netherlands. The ranking is based on a broad assessment, including academic publications, articles published in ESB, and outstanding master’s theses written by students.

For academics, particular attention is paid this year to emerging scholars: researchers who publish at a high level but do not yet hold a full professorship. This year, the selection was expanded to include economists affiliated with Dutch institutions outside universities. As a result, three faculty members of Erasmus School of Economics appeared in the top 25. Associate Professors Wendun Wang, Matthijs Korevaar, and Laurens Swinkels ranked 10th, 11th, and 14th respectively.

This year’s Economenparade also featured a separate top 25 of female economists, which did include full professors. From Erasmus School of Economics, Chen Li, Professor of Behavioural Economics, ranked 12th, and Anne Gielen, Professor of Economics, was placed 18th.

Finally, ESB highlighted master’s theses that received a REmagine thesis award this year. Erasmus School of Economics master’s student Kavin Varadharajulu was awarded the REmagine Award in early December for his master’s thesis in the category Future Health and Healthcare.
