Yuval Hazon, Yuv Luthra, Aryan Gowda, and Martin Tabakov have won the 2026 National Economics Olympiad. Organised by study association AEclipse, the tenth edition of the competition took place on Wednesday 13 May 2026 at Erasmus University Rotterdam’s Woudestein campus. Nearly 100 students from universities across the Netherlands, including the University of Amsterdam, Tilburg University, Leiden University, and Radboud University, competed in teams for the title of ‘best economics students of the Netherlands’.
The National Economics Olympiad 2026 opened with a welcome address by Professor Robert Dur, President of the Royal Netherlands Economics Association (KVS). Participants then completed a challenging three-hour examination featuring questions prepared by economics professors from various academic disciplines. In the afternoon programme, students participated in workshops hosted by RBB Economics and De Nederlandsche Bank. RBB Economics provided insights into the economic frameworks used in its daily work and shared practical examples from its project portfolio. During the De Nederlandsche Bank workshop, participants learned more about how monetary policy is conducted within the euro area. The event also featured an inspiring keynote lecture by Maarten Goos, Professor of Institutions and Economics at Utrecht University and former chair of the European Union’s expert group on digitisation. His lecture, titled AI, automatisation, and the labour market, explored the impact of technological developments on employment and the changing nature of middle-income jobs.
