A university that listens actively to its members becomes more resilient, innovative, and fair.
Linda Dekker, ESSB/EUC
Staff Member of the University Council
Why did you want to join the University Council?
I want to help create a university environment where the strengths of its members are actively recognised and utilised. The Council provides a platform to move beyond siloed conversations and truly collaborate across perspectives. I believe in the power of dialogue and accountability to help shape a university that is welcoming, safe, and ambitious - not just in long-term visions, but in actual, measurable progress.
What issues will you focus on in particular?
I will focus on translating abstract goals into concrete, inclusive policy. Key themes for me are: stimulating high quality education and research, promoting meaningful participation and inclusivity, and holding leadership accountable for follow-through on promises. I'm also committed to making sure policies work in practice - especially for students and staff in more vulnerable or underrepresented positions within the university.
What is the importance of participation in your opinion?
Participation ensures that policy isn't made in a vacuum. It brings in real-world experiences, identifies blind spots, and helps balance ambition with feasibility. To me, participation is not about symbolic involvement but about co-creation. A university that listens actively to its members becomes more resilient, innovative, and fair.
