“This MicroLab changed the way I look at teaching.”

Lecturer at the Media & Communication department of ESHCC

Argyrios Emmanouloudis is a lecturer at the Media & Communication department at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He joined the MicroLab on Impact-Driven Education because he believes education should go beyond theory: “Education should make a real difference. This session immediately caught my interest as an opportunity to explore how we can give students that “something extra.”

"At first, I wasn’t entirely sure what was expected of me, but as the session progressed, I found myself looking at societal issues from multiple new angles. The most inspiring part was the hands-on activities that pushed us to actively observe and reflect on our surroundings, rather than just talk.

One key insight for me was that “impact” is not a fixed or simple concept. It’s up to us as educators to define what impact means and find ways to integrate it into our teaching. Even though I mostly teach courses coordinated by others, I now see more opportunities to encourage my students to think about how their actions can positively influence society.”

What would you like to share with colleagues who are considering joining the MicroLab?

“The MicroLab has given me food for thought. I think it could be really meaningful for educators who are interested in rethinking their teaching and exploring new ways to make an impact.”
