Dutch sectors port and water builders dominant in Europe - UPT research

For the Maritime Delta Monitor 2017, Erasmus UPT analysed the competitive position of the maritime cluster in South Holland. Main conclusion of UPT expert Martijn Streng is the dominant position of Dutch sectors port and dredging & offshore in Europe.Streng: "There are various maritime clusters in Europe. The Maritime Delta Zuid-Holland mainly competes with Northern Germany and Flanders. Maritime Delta Zuid-Holland is dominant in Europe in the field of port and dredging."

Identifying competition

The Maritime Delta Monitor 2017 analyses in amongst the differences in competitive positions of the different maritime clusters in Europe. The quick scan from Erasmus UPT shows that the Maritime Delta Zuid-Holland has a good competitive position. Reasons for this are:

• the presence of the port of Rotterdam,

• the strong maritime manufacturing industry and maritime business services,

• the production of high-end vessels and

• the presence of leading companies in offshore and dredging.

The Maritime Delta Monitor is conducted every 2 years. It provides insight into hard figures, but also in soft developments such as innovation.
