An extensive article in the Financieel Dagblad today about the Erasmus UPT study: Rotterdam Effect, the impact of mainport Rotterdam on the Dutch Economy. Bart Kuipers, main author of the study illustrates, together with Allard Castelein (CEO Port of Rotterdam), the importance of the port for the Dutch economy, but on the other hand indicates the challenges the port is facing. The question is whether the port of the future will still create a Rotterdam effect. Researcher Kuipers is convinced: 'I think the best has yet to come. The growth in volumes seems to have reached its peak, but the port becomes more attractive, cleaner, less emissions and more sustainable.
