The IT department of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is on the eve of major innovations in system architecture. These changes offer a unique opportunity for IT professionals who want to contribute to a more efficient, flexible and scalable IT landscape.
Trends and innovations
Our team is working on ambitious projects, such as the migration of on-premise applications to the cloud and the implementation of a new integration platform on Azure. In addition, the ERP system is being replaced, which will transfer all HR and financial processes to a new public cloud platform. These projects are essential to prepare the university for the future and increase its digital resilience.
Challenges
Working at EUR means working with a variety of faculties and services. This can feel like working with multiple companies, each with its own IT landscape. However, the university is moving towards a shared IT landscape, which makes this transformation extra challenging and interesting. The decentralised nature brings complexity, but also offers plenty of opportunities to standardise and improve.
In addition, keeping up with changes in a rapidly evolving IT landscape is one of our biggest challenges. As an architect, it is essential to continuously stay up to date with developments within your domain and to maintain a strong network. Showing the benefits of a uniform architecture helps to get others on board with our vision.
Room for improvement
Our university has unique opportunities to make a mark on the IT landscape. From simplifying data flows to preventing duplicates in applications—there is still much room for improvement. In addition, the university sector openly shares knowledge, giving professionals access to valuable experiences and insights from other institutions.
A recent example is the replacement of the ERP system. Here, the focus is on simplicity and standardization: processes are streamlined and supported by a standardized system with minimal customization. The goal is a scalable, easy-to-maintain landscape that perfectly matches the needs of an educational institution.
Culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration
The culture within EDIS is characterised by openness and collaboration. Although it can sometimes be a challenge to find the right colleague or information in a large and dispersed network, this is compensated by the willingness to share knowledge. By being present on campus and asking critical questions, you not only build a strong network, but also contribute to the success of the team.
Suitable for you?
If you are solution-oriented, practical and strong in stakeholder management, you are the architect we are looking for. You will join a team of experienced professionals who will jointly take EUR's IT landscape to a higher level. In addition, you will be given plenty of room to contribute your own ideas and expertise. Help build the future of IT in higher education and use your talents for a university that focuses on innovation and collaboration.
