Working as a Student Diversity Officer
Alex Huang (Student Diversity Officer) did not immediately feel at home at Erasmus University Rotterdam due to his unique background. His experiences as a queer migrant and first-generation student inspired him to help others in his role as Student Diversity Officer at ESSB. Huang's goal is to create a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels at home. He emphasizes the importance of intersectional diversity and fostering belonging among students and staff. 'The more people with different backgrounds work in academia, the more diverse research and education become.'
IDEA Center
Our Inclusion, Diversity, Equality & Access (IDEA) Center creates and monitors policies in the field of diversity and inclusion. The team exchanges information, connects, supports and advises all departments within our university.

Networking
As an employee, you can join various networks, such as Young@EUR (for employees under 36 years) and QuEUR (for employees who are part of the LGBTQ+ community).

Research into racism in football
PhD candidate Palesa Mashigo and professor Dr. Jacco van Sterkenburg are conducting research into racism in football, because they believe that sport can serve as an example and convey a positive message. Despite the fact that football teams are often multi-ethnic, many footballers of colour still regularly face racial stereotyping. Van Sterkenburg states that journalists, including himself, have a responsibility because they reach millions of people with their stories.
