The Legal Affairs Department is the central department of the university that provides legal support to the Executive Board (CvB) as an administrative body. They also provide legal assistance to the chair of the CvB as the legal representative of the public-law legal entity EUR.

The department consists of the following four teams:

Legal Advice team

This team advises the Executive Board (CvB) on private and administrative law. They are responsible for private law and administrative law legal representation on behalf of the CvB. They also share practical legal knowledge within the university and develop legal models.

Legal Procedures team

This team supports several independent boards and committees. In addition, Legal Procedures is responsible for legal representation at the Council of State, Administrative Law Division, in appeals against decisions of the Examination Appeals Board.

Francisco Alvarez y Peña works as a lawyer at Legal Affairs. In his role, he deals with various areas of law: from private law to education and procurement law.

Legal Services team

The lawyers of the Legal Services team provide legal support to faculties, examination boards, professional services and affiliated legal entities.

Privacy, AI & Data Protection team

Privacy lawyers provide advice via the EDIS privacy organization. Furthermore, the Data Protection Officer and the Artificial Intelligence supervisor are part of this expert team.
