Introduction
We are seeking an experienced health economist with proven modelling and analytics skills to join our HTA department. The successful candidate will lead and collaborate on high-impact research projects, develop grant applications, supervise PhD and postgraduate students, and strengthen our teaching.
Job description
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing an externally funded methodological research program to improve the theoretical and empirical foundations of health economic modelling methods (e.g. Markov models, microsimulation, discrete event models, real-world data-based models), in collaboration with public and private partners.
Co-leading a multidisciplinary team that conducts assessments of HTA submissions for NICE in the UK, with a focus on the most realistic estimate of the cost-effectiveness of the medicine, device, or diagnostic test being evaluated.
Teaching health economic modellings skills to undergraduates and postgraduates, and innovating training materials.
Supporting colleagues conducting applied health economic modelling studies to inform decision making by HTA bodies, government agencies, health technology developers and providers.
Line-management responsibilities and contributions to departmental leadership, strategic management, and mentorship activities.
Job requirements
- PhD in Health Economics, Decision-Analytic Modelling, Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science.
- Proven postdoctoral experience in programming health economic models using multiple tools like Excel VBA, Python, R, SAS, Stata, or TreeAge.
- Proven teaching experience at university level.
- Track record of successful supervision of PhD candidates.
- Effective interpersonal skills to work in interdisciplinary teams.
- The ability to effectively handle short-term deadlines.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
- Strong publication record in internationally recognized journals.
Desirable:
- Advanced epidemiological or statistical training.
- Knowledge of evaluation frameworks (e.g. ZIN, NICE, HAS, IQWIG).
- A strong record of competitive grant funding.
- Wide international network.
- Speaking Dutch is not a requirement but would be an asset.

The start date of this position is 01-JAN-2026 and you will be based at [class.26087] in Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM). This position is for 1 fte - 1 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 6.835 to a maximum of € 8.673 gross per month Scale 14 on a fulltime basis (38 hours), in accordance with the CAO-NU. The contract is offered for a period of 1 year and can be converted into an employment contract for an indefinite period if suitability is proven and if continued in the same position, if (financial and/or organizational) circumstances remain the same.

Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management
ESHPM is leading within the Netherlands with its teaching and research activities, focusing on economics, policy and management topics in healthcare. ESHPM offers a bachelor programme, five master programmes, a transition programme for lateral entrants and postgraduate education. Since its foundation in 1982, ESHPM has closely linked research and education. Knowledge and experience from various scientific disciplines such as economics, law, socio-medical sciences, organizational studies and public administration are brought together and applied to healthcare. Department
Health Technology Assessment (HTA)
The HTA department and its associated institute IMTA employ a group of around 50 researchers who excel in health economic outcomes research and preference research, emphasizing methodological rigor and broad societal impact. The HTA department is renowned for its impactful contributions to methodological advancements in economic evaluation studies from a broad societal perspective and in preference elicitation. The department takes pride in its achievements, having authored the Dutch guideline for costing studies in HTA and issuing the Dutch reference prices, essential for use in HTA. In the modelling domain, the department has published Tech-Ver, a checklist to improve model credibility, and AdViSHE, a tool to assess model-validation.
