Privacy and security

Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is strongly committed to privacy and security, with a proactive approach that aligns with the latest trends and technologies. This makes the university an ideal workplace for professionals who want to contribute to a secure digital environment.

Trends and developments

The implementation of a "Zero Trust model" is one of the spearheads. This model assumes that no device or user is trusted without thorough verification. At the same time, work is being done to improve privacy risk signaling in new systems and applications and the security of cloud environments using Azure-native solutions.

In addition, EUR uses AI and machine learning for pattern recognition and anomaly detection, which proactively identifies risks and threats. Privacy is integrated into systems and processes from the design phase according to the principles of Privacy by Design and through the use of Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET).

Future-proof

To be prepared for new challenges, the team regularly organises training courses, workshops and security drills. Incident response simulations such as OZON strengthen preparedness for security incidents. At the same time, EUR implements leading standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls to ensure robust security processes.

Collaboration and innovation

Encouraging collaboration between teams, educational institutions, and external partners plays a crucial role in strengthening security. Participation in hackathons and innovation competitions offer creative solutions to complex problems. Furthermore, EUR creates an open culture in which team members are free to share ideas and explore new approaches.

Challenges

The team is faced with the challenge of securing a complex and changing IT infrastructure against a dynamic threat landscape. With limited resources, they work hard to quickly address new threats. Collaboration with academic institutions, participation in networks such as ISACA and (ISC)², and the use of external consultants contribute to the success of this mission.
