Introduction

Are you looking for a temporary part-time role in an international academic environment? Do you enjoy working accurately with data, bringing structure to information and contributing to a clear project result? Then this role may be a good opportunity for you.

IHS is looking for a temporary part-time Library Assistant to support the integration of the IHS library database into the university library database system, WMS. In this role, you will help review, verify and update library records so they can be accurately included in the university system.

This is a temporary position for approximately three months, starting around mid-July until mid-October 2026, for two days per week. The role is based at Erasmus University Rotterdam’s Woudestein campus.

Job description

The IHS library database is currently being integrated with the wider university library database. Most records have already been migrated successfully. The remaining set of records still needs to be reviewed, corrected, and prepared for integration.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working carefully with structured information and who can help bring this project to a successful completion. Your work will contribute directly to the quality and accessibility of IHS library information for students, academic staff, and other users.

Your tasks will include:

  • Assisting with the integration of the IHS library database into the university library database system

  • Reviewing incomplete, inconsistent or incompatible library records

  • Verifying record accuracy by consulting the IHS library catalogue and, where needed, physical library materials

  • Entering, updating and correcting data in the relevant library systems

  • Preparing records for data migration

  • Reporting questions, inconsistencies or complex cases to the Information Manager

  • Collaborating with the integration team on data migration issues

  • Documenting findings and providing progress updates where needed

Job requirements

This role requires accuracy, patience and a careful way of working.

In return, you will gain hands-on experience with library data, database integration and information management, while contributing to a project that improves the accessibility and quality of IHS library information.

You are accurate, organised and comfortable working with structured information. You work carefully and independently while keeping an eye on deadlines and data quality.

You have:

  • A careful and accurate working style, with strong attention to detail

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines without losing quality

  • Good digital skills and confidence in learning new systems

  • The ability to work independently and ask questions when clarification is needed

  • A proactive and solution-oriented attitude

  • Good written and spoken English communication skills

  • The ability to work well in an international and multicultural environment

Experience with administrative work, data entry, library work, database maintenance, library catalogues, library databases or information management systems is an advantage.

Familiarity with academic libraries or educational environments, or an interest in information management, library studies, urban studies, social sciences or a related field, is also considered an asset.

The role is linked to the UFO profile Medewerker bibliotheek services 3.

Employment conditions and benefits

What we offer:

  • A temporary, part-time assistant position for approximately three months, from mid-July to mid-October 2026.

  • A contract for approximately 16 hours per week

  • A salary between €3.004 and €3.465 gross per month based on full-time employment, linked to scale 5 of the CLA NU and adjusted proportionately for part-time work
