Introduction

As a Senior HR Policy Advisor, you influence the university's HR strategy in the areas of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access (IDEA). You act as a sparring partner and provide advice on various topics within this scope.

For this position, we are looking for a colleague with strong communication skills in both Dutch and English (C1 level).

Job description

We are looking for an experienced advisor who can continue working on the theme of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access (IDEA) within the field of HR. The job includes the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Influencing the university’s HR strategy in the area of IDEA, and embedding IDEA principles in existing and new HR processes and projects
  • Acting as a sparring partner, and giving advice on HR IDEA topics to HR leadership, Chief diversity officer and other stakeholders
  • Supporting and advising (together with the HR business partners faculties in implementing their IDEA diversity policies
  • Providing knowledge and tools to our faculties, services department and HR business partners across a range of topics including, but not limited to: Recruitment and candidate selection, inclusive talent management, social and psychological safety, culture and leadership, retention, and other content-related themes
  • Successfully navigating a politically sensitive and administrative environment
  • Playing a role in signaling external social and policy developments
  • Closely collaborating with our existing HR IDEA policy advisor
  • Being a linking pin between IDEA Center and our HR (strategy) department.

Job requirements

  • We are looking for an experienced policy/organisation advisor who can work independently to develop strategic policy and decision-making processes and can translate policy to actual actions and tools.
  • Theoretical knowledge, expertise, and drive for embedding IDEA topics in HR: recruitment and selection, psychological safety, inclusive leadership, talent management, etc. Minimum 5-7 years of experience in this topic.
  • Completed university education, knowledge of English and Dutch language (both at minimum C1 level).

Competencies

  • You have good analytical skills, knowledge of statistical analyses is a plus
  • You are at home in a politically sensitive and administrative environment, recognise resistance and know how to navigate it
  • You have strong writing skills (both in terms of content and structure), are to the point and can visualise policy plans where necessary
  • Strong presenting skills: Comfortable explaining complex policies and details in an easily digestible manner for colleagues from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • When collaborating and negotiating with various stakeholders, you keep an eye on the results and the relationship.

The start date of this position is negotiable, and you will be based at the General Management Directorate (ABD) - IDEA Center department, located at the Woudestein campus in Rotterdam. This position is for 0,8 FTE. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 5.495 gross per month to a maximum of € 7.056 gross per month (scale 12) on a fulltime basis (38 hours/1 FTE), in accordance with the CAO-NU. The contract is entered into for the duration of 1 year and can be converted into a permanent contract if performance is good and the organizational circumstances remain unchanged.

Faculty / Institute / Central service

IDEA Center is the heart of EUR’s diversity and inclusion agenda. We work towards an inclusive academic community where everyone feels at home and has equal opportunities. Through policy development, research, training, and partnerships, we actively contribute to a more equitable and engaged university. The team consists of 14 members with content expertise on outreach, inclusive engagement, soft landing, student engagement, inclusive education, inclusive organization (incl. HR IDEA specialists), inclusive communication, monitoring and research. IDEA center is headed by Chief Diversity officer, and managed by IDEA Center manager.

HR IDEA policy advisor reports directly to IDEA Center manager but also has close contact with director HR and HR strategy team coordinator. HR IDEA policy advisor is embedded in both IDEA Center and HR strategy team, thus attending team meetings of both departments. Due to the broad scope of the programs, the IDEA Center is positioned in the General Management Directorate. Considering the many projects of IDEA Center that are connected to HR, we have two Policy Advisors who work on IDEA topics within HR. You will join the IDEA Center team and also be embedded in the HR strategy team.

Group

HR Unit

Our HR Unit is part of the Professional Services team. HR consists of five teams: HR Strategy, HR Advice, HR Services, Learning and Career center (LCC), and Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW). At present, the HR strategy team consists of Director HR, coordinator, program manager and HR policy advisor. The HR Strategy team focuses on EUR wide HR related topics and projects, like Leadership development, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access, Engagement and the Employee survey, monitoring and reporting in cooperation with EUR central departments and supporting the HR Management Team in HR Strategy development, activation, communication and follow-up.

Department

Erasmus University Rotterdam is working hard to achieve its ambitions in the field of diversity and inclusion. To support this, a central Diversity & Inclusion Office has been established, with a D&I team dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion across the university.
