Stadswandelingen trailer

City walks is a podcast series in which we are curious about how things are going in Rotterdam. On this journey of discovery, we explore, question and clarify the relationship between the city and Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). In this way, we unravel the many ways in which these two are linked – although that is not always clear. So, shoes on, laces tied: let's go into town!

Rotterdam is a city with an eye on the future. In 2024, however, that is a demanding task. There are great opportunities, but also considerable challenges on the Rotterdam agenda. City walks wants to make these matters clear and tangible for a wide audience. We do this while walking, where that audience is: with scientists and involved city residents, we walk right through our city and look for answers to the big and small issues in Rotterdam.

The university

EUR is a breeding ground for important research. Yet all too often these insights remain stuck within the walls of the university. In the bustling streets of the city, people actually know relatively little about what is happening in (Rotterdam) science. But also the other way around. Fascinating research results do not necessarily form perfect lids on the various pots of social issues. In this podcast we show where these worlds occasionally embrace each other, sometimes do not understand each other, but are always connected.

The city

We discuss as many themes as the city has to offer: from nightlife to confused behavior and from insomnia to sex work. We talk to people who speak their minds and have a heart for the city. We speak to street doctors, local residents and garbage men. We walk through the entire city with them, from the Oude Noorden to Rotterdam Zuid and from the Nieuwe Westen to the Oosterflank.
