About the Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School

The Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School (NAHSS) was initiated by Utrecht University, Delft University, McKinsey & Company and AkzoNobel in 2012. Nowadays, the initiative is supported by all Dutch research universities, four Dutch ministries, and many leading Dutch and Asian multinational companies.

The NAHSS actively focuses on carrying out the importance of Asia-related knowledge and experiences. Educating and motivating students, exchange of knowledge, improving the relations between Asia and the Netherlands and creating awareness of the (future) importance of the continent are among the goals of the NAHSS. 

  • You are a second or third year bachelor student at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR)*;
  • You are available in July-August to attend the summer programme;
  • You are able to demonstrate a B2 level of the English language (both written and oral);
  • You have an affinity with China and Southeast Asia;
  • You are ambitious, social, active, open minded and enterpreneurial;
  • You are an excellent student and meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • You have above average grades (> 7.5/10);
    • Performed relevant extracurricular activities.

During the preparatory period in the Netherlands, participants are expected to dedicate at least 5-10 hours per week on projects and NAHSS related activities. Additionally, all the elements of the NAHSS programme in the Netherlands are mandatory with no exceptions. During the summer NAHSS expects fulltime commitment of the participants.

* Fourth year bachelor students can only apply for the NAHSS programme if they can substantiate a legitimate reason for their study delay.

Applicable to:

  • Nationalities: all nationalities
  • Partcipating faculties: all faculties
  • Level of study: Bachelor

  • A preparatory track in the Netherlands from March to June (Kick-Off weekend, masterclasses, and Take-Off);
  • Participation at universities in Asia and the Netherlands;
  • Company visits;
  • Coaching and guidance during the projects;
  • Acceptance to the exclusive NAHSS network.

Participants are expected to make their own contribution of a maximum of €1250 (t.b.a. on the website for the trip to Southeast Asia. For this price, the NAHSS provides its participants with the flight to Asia, accommodation during the entire summer program (in the Netherlands and Asia), events, company visits, training, guidance during the projects and access to the exclusive NAHSS network. Expenses for, food, drinks and activities on your own initiative in Asia are at your own expense.
