The Education Center (OWC) will be closed from July 3 through August 15. The wooden floor is being repaired following damage caused by the fire in 2023. The building will be inaccessible during this period. Teaching and studying in the new building will continue as usual.
The wooden floor was damaged by water used to extinguish the fire. OWC Facilities Coordinator Michael Lindaart: ‘We explored various options to minimize disruption, such as working in the evenings, at night, and on weekends. Unfortunately, these solutions proved unfeasible.’
To ensure everything is carried out safely and properly, it was therefore decided to completely close the building during the summer.

Demolishing 1,000 m² of flooring
Danny van Gijzen is the project manager and has been involved in the renovation from the start: ‘There’s a large area about 1,000 m² that we’re demolishing because the floor can no longer be repaired. We’ll install a temporary floor in this section due to long lead times for the parquet and the limited time available this summer to install it.’ A new time frame will be sought for installing the parquet.
Other tasks include:
- Sanding and oiling approximately 3,000 m² of parquet flooring.
- Replacing the floor in ’t Vat.
What does this mean?
- The old Education Center is closed, but the new wing and the Gk building will remain open as usual. This means that teaching and studying can continue as usual.
- Students can use study areas and quiet rooms in the new section. This information can be found in the schedule.
- The study advisors’ consultation rooms remain accessible via the ICT Service Desk.
- The Education Service Point will be relocated to the Telecommunications Service Desk during regular business hours.
The MMT route will remain accessible during this period.
