You already have an idea of the direction you want to study in: History, Arts and Culture Studies or Communication & Media. Our study programmes approach these areas from cultural, economic, political and social perspectives, at the intersection of the humanities and social sciences. Now you just want to know why a bachelor's degree at Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication is right for you.
Student for a Day
During Student for a Day, you will be introduced to the programme you are interested in. A trained student (called an ambassador) will show you what a day on campus looks like. Do you live far from Rotterdam? Or is it difficult for you to come to the campus? For English-taught programmes, there's also Online Student for a Day.
You will attend a lecture and/or seminar and get to know the campus through a campus tour. The ambassador will tell you all about his or her experiences and, of course, you can ask any questions you may have. This will help you decide whether this study programme and educational institution are a good fit for you.
About our bachelor programmes
We cover contemporary history from 1500 onwards, with a focus on the last 200 years. You will learn how social, cultural, economic and political developments have led to the world as it is today. You will establish links between the present and the past on the basis of overarching themes such as migration, social inequality, popular culture and international conflicts, and attempt to find answers to contemporary social issues.
During this bachelor's programme, you will explore the arts and culture sector from the perspectives of sociology, economics, politics and media. You will learn about the role of art and cultural heritage in our society, how art is produced and consumed, and how the sector is organised and structured economically. And where better to do this than in an international cultural hub such as Rotterdam? This bachelor's programme can be combined with a five-year dual degree in the arts at Codarts or the Willem de Kooning Academy.
The world is as big as your smartphone. What consequences does that have for society? In this study programme, you will study communication and media in a globalised world from a sociological, cultural, political and economic perspective. You will explore the latest developments in media technology, communication techniques and the creative media sector and investigate their impact.
Do you have an artistic or musical talent, but would like to complement it with academic knowledge from the arts and cultural sciences? Then combine art and science during the 5-year dual bachelor in Rotterdam. The Dual Degree in Arts and Science programme is made possible by Rotterdam Arts and Sciences Lab (RASL), a collaboration of Arts and Culture Studies (EUR), Erasmus University College (EUR), Willem de Kooning Academy (WdKA) and Codarts Rotterdam.
