Regulatory collaboration

Runtime: 2014 - 2018
Client: NZa (Dutch Healthcare Authority)

Project description

Several severe incidents in the semi-public sector, made society calling for more regulation and enhancing supervision of semi-public organizations. This reinforcement of supervision should be aimed at both internal supervision, by a supervisory board, and external supervision, by governmental regulators such as the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). According to the Parliament, reinforcement could be achieved by cooperation between the internal and external supervisor: they could supplement and reinforce each other. Previous research in the field of interaction between internal and external supervision showed that both supervisors were interested in cooperation, but neither one of them knew how to establish a relationship. This research project focusses on the question whether and how contact between these supervisors can be useful and feasible.

Mr. drs. L.A. Schakel is a PhD candidate at ESHPM/HCG and senior policy maker at the Dutch Healthcare Authority.
